Ari Kalachev (Argir Nikolov Kalachev), Bulgarian artist, was born on August 19, 1890. in the village of Gorno Brodi, Sersko. In 1921 he graduated from the painting specialty at the Art Industrial School (today NHA) in the class of prof. Ivan Mrkvichka (1921). He specialized in the second painting course at the Academy under prof. Stefan Ivanov also in Italy (1927). Until 1945 he worked as a drawing teacher in Sofia and as an artist at the Ethnographic Museum. Painter – watercolorist and portraitist. He organized his first exhibition in 1927, and the last one, which was entitled “Views from Botevgrad”, was in 1947. in Sofia. He collaborates with a number of newspapers (in “Literature Hour” etc.) and magazines (“Vaveti”). He died on 25.10.1958. in Sofia.
