Atanas Jaranov (1940 – 1988)

Atanas Jaranov is a Bulgarian artist, painter and among the brightest names in the new Bulgarian artistry. Together with Genko Genkov, Ivan Vukadinov, Dimitar Kazakov, they created one of the strongest generations in our painting. He is the father of painters Dimitar Jaranov and Iva Jaranova. 
Atanas Dimitrov Jaranov was born on July 13, 1940 in Sofia. He died on August 14, 1988 in Sofia. In 1965, he finished Decorative Monumental Painting at VIII "N. Pavlovich" (today NHA) under Prof. Georgi Bogdanov. He works in the field of figural composition, portraiture, easel and monumental painting (mosaic, sgraffito). His first participation in a collective exhibition was in Sofia (1965).
He held solo exhibitions in Sofia (1975), Plovdiv (1971), Warsaw (1973), Bratislava (1974), Varna (1978).
Awards: award from the Second National Youth Exhibition in Sofia (1978), award from the Third National Youth Exhibition in Sofia (1979), award from the III Triennial of Realistic Painting in Sofia (1979), "Ilia Petrov" award of the SBH for monumental-decorative painting;award of the SBH in the name of "Vladimir Dimitrov-The Master" (1982), award for painting "Zahari Zograf" (1985). His works can be found in NHHG, SGHHG, art galleries in the country and in private collections at home and abroad.
