Vasil Stoilov – “A woman with a halo”, 1927

The painting “A woman with a halo” by Vasil Stoilov is the highlight of the month of December in Djurkovi Gallery.

“I was trying not to get lost into the modern trends of the Paris school, but rather to master my own ideology and to aim at a personal understanding of human and nature by working hard and steadily, without repeating somebody else’s style. I admired the immense Renaissance artists, the later art periods in general, the 19th century artists, the contemporary artists, but I never let myself forget that I was a Shoppian man and a part of a nation not deprived of its traditions and culture…”
